What are delivery metrics?

Delivery metrics are the numbers and trends that show how work is flowing through your team, such as how quickly you deliver, how much work you finish, and how reliably you ship. This gives you a clear picture of how effectively you’re turning ideas into outcomes, without getting lost in vanity stats or heavyweight reports.

Why does your team need delivery metrics?

Delivery metrics offer a transparent view of how your team is actually working, so everyone can see what's improving, what's slowing down, and where attention is needed.

When you can see the impact of scope changes, priorities, or process tweaks in the numbers, it's much easier to have grounded conversations about what to do next and which experiments are worth trying.

Tracking a small set of meaningful metrics over time helps teams spot patterns, test changes, and see whether they're really making delivery smoother and more predictable, or just feeling busier.

What elements should your delivery metrics include?

Value delivery metrics for features

After your features are built and shipped, it’s time to compare the outcomes with the expectations outlined in your product roadmap. There are many different types of data you can gather to see how your features are doing. Connect this data with a summary of the initial expectation and the actual outcome it presents, so everyone can see clearly if it has been successful.
Our template uses tabs with identical tables in each, so you can flick between different features to see the success of the whole epic or product in one place.

Highlighted metrics

There may be metrics you want your team to pay particular attention to, celebrate, study, or learn from.
Displaying these metrics in Advanced Cards means you can make them stand out. You can even add links so readers can click them for further information.

Value delivery metrics for teams and processes

All agile teams should be focused on improving their methods of work as much as their features. There are many ways to calculate the efficiency and effectiveness of your team's processes.
Our template guides you through five metrics and calculations, including throughput, work in progress, cycle times, lead time, and flow efficiency, displaying these in tabs so you can jump through them without cluttering your page.
