What are SMART Goals?

SMART goals are a framework that establishes criteria for setting effective objectives. The acronym SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, providing a checklist to ensure goals are well-defined and lead to a higher chance of success.

Why does your company need SMART Goals?

Using the SMART goals framework provides clarity and focus for individuals and teams by:

Improving goal clarity and focus

The framework forces you to think through the important details of your objectives, removing ambiguity and providing a clear path forward.

Increasing motivation and accountability

Well-defined goals with clear deadlines are easier to track and work towards, which increases team motivation and holds everyone accountable for their part.

Enhancing progress tracking

The 'measurable' aspect of SMART goals ensures you have tangible metrics from the start, making it simple to monitor progress and celebrate milestones.

What elements should a SMART Goals page include?

A clear definition of the SMART acronym

To ensure the whole team understands the framework, it’s important to define what each letter of the acronym stands for. Using Advanced Cards makes each principle distinct and easy to digest. They can also act as buttons to skip ahead to each section of the page through anchor links.

Structured sections for detailed goal setting

To guide users through the process, the page can be broken down into sections for each criterion. Using the Background macro creates a clear, step-by-step workflow, helping the team focus on one aspect at a time, from 'specific' to 'time-bound'.
