Work doesn't have to be boring. In fact, injecting lightheartedness is crucial to keeping your employees motivated. While team celebrations are a great way to show the team you care, you should be including smaller and more frequent activities to break up the workweek. This is where a fun workplace quiz comes in!
Quizzes are also useful for a range of business activities, such as training and onboarding. Learn more with our guide on how to use quizzes in your organisation.

Why do fun quizzes matter at work?

While quizzes can be useful for training and onboarding, they also play a powerful role in shaping team culture, engagement, and communication. Here's how:

  • They spark conversation: Quizzes give coworkers an easy, lighthearted way to interact, especially across departments or remote settings. A funny quiz can start conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen.

  • They build connection: When people laugh, learn, or discover surprising things about one another (like who used to be in a punk band), they form stronger bonds. That connection boosts trust and collaboration in day-to-day work.

  • They make meetings more engaging: A quick quiz can instantly energise a Zoom call or in-person meeting, and gives people something to look forward to. This is especially useful in long training sessions or quarterly kickoffs.

  • They introduce new employees to the company: Fun quizzes can make new hires feel more at ease. It's a low-pressure way to introduce them to the team and build an inclusive workplace.

7 fun quiz ideas to boost engagement at work

1. “Get to know you” quiz

This quiz is a relaxed, low-stakes way for coworkers to find common ground (and maybe laugh about their differences). Make sure you give team members a chance to discuss their answers at the end!

Example questions:
  • Which of the following best describes your ideal weekend?
    • A) Adventure outdoors
    • B) Relaxing at home
    • C) Exploring a new city
    • D) Catching up on hobbies

  • If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be? (Participants type their own answers)

2. "Guess who” quiz

A great icebreaker for team introductions, this has coworkers trying to decide which fact applies to which person. Collect answers anonymously ahead of time via a feedback form so you can join in too!

Example questions:
  • Whose favourite movie is The Lord of the Rings?
  • Which team member is a certified scuba diver?
  • Who used to sing in a folk punk band?

3. Two truths and a lie quiz

Similar to the above, but with a little bit of a twist, this quiz presents participants with three statements about a team member. It’s up to participants to determine which statement is false. Create one question per employee, with one lie each, and see if your team members can figure out the truth!

Example question:

  • Which of the following statements about Jennifer is a lie?
    • She has an identical twin.
    • She has a collection of over 2,000 Magic: The Gathering cards.
    • She never learnt to ride a bike.

4. “Who's that baby?" quiz

You might know your team well, but can you identify the baby version of each colleague? Gather pictures of your coworkers for a great icebreaker quiz - it's guaranteed to get a few laughs and a lot of awws.

5. “Would you rather” quiz

Pizza-only forever or no pizza ever again? This quiz forces you to choose one of two outlandish ideas. There's no better way to get coworkers engaged than to have a passionate discussion about whether they'd rather have a head the size of a boulder or a golf ball.

Example questions:
  • Would you rather only eat sweet foods or only savoury foods forever?
  • Would you rather be able to fast forward your life or rewind it?
  • Would you rather give up coffee or your phone for a week?

6. Weekly trivia quiz

A classic for a reason, battling against each other to see who has the best trivia knowledge is a great way to bring your team together. You could even come up with a small prize for the winner, or just let everyone bask in their glory.

Example questions:
  • Which is the only planet in the solar system named after an Ancient Greek god instead of a Roman one?
    • Venus
    • Uranus [Correct]
    • Neptune

  • What is the name of Stephen King’s first published novel?
    • Carrie [Correct]
    • The Shining
    • Salem’s Lot

7. “Guess the desk” quiz

Can you match your coworker to their workspace? This quiz is great for hybrid or remote teams who don’t get to see each other’s desks all the time. Get your team to send in photos of their remote office and figure out if each space matches its owner.
