Discover the magic of Trello Power-Ups. Find out what they are and why you should start using them today!

For many of us, Trello has completely transformed the way we work. From being able to clearly visualise our workload through to customising boards to suit our specific organisational style - and aesthetic taste - Trello enables us to plan like never before. But why limit yourself to the basic Trello functionality? There’s a whole world of possibility at your fingertips - you just need to unlock it. That’s where Trello Power-Ups come in.

What are Trello Power-Ups?

Put very simply, Trello Power-Ups are apps that you can add onto your Trello board to make it do more things. You could think of them like an app for your phone that you install from the Apple/Android App Store. These phone apps add functionality to your phone that goes beyond what it can do when you first buy it. For example, the Spotify App allows you to access your Spotify account and music on your phone. Trello Power-Ups work in the same way, extending what you can do in Trello and allowing you to get more value from the product.
An example of a Trello Power-Up is Time Tracking & Reporting for Trello. This allows you to log time against Trello cards, making it easier to track how much time you’ve spent on each task. This is not something Trello can do “out-of-the-box” without the Power-Up, but once you start using it you'll finally see how you can find more time in your day!

What can Trello Power-Ups do to help you?

There is a whole directory of Trello Power-Ups out there ready to be added to your board and start helping you get even more done with Trello.
Power-Ups range in functionality from basic reporting, all the way through to turning your boards into fully-fledged CRM systems.
To help you get to grips with some of the areas Power-Ups can help you with, here are the categories:
  • Analytics & Reporting
  • Automation
  • Board Utilities
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Developer Tools
  • File Management
  • HR & Operations
  • IT & Project Management
  • Marketing & Social Media
  • Product & Design
  • Sales & Support
As you can see, there is a wide range of Power-Ups for all kinds of users and teams. Whether you’re a software developer looking to Agile-up your development board with some story points and work-in-progress limits, or a manager looking to export your Trello board to Excel for reporting/sharing, there will likely be a Power-Up to help.

How do you install Trello Power-Ups?

Introducing the Power-Up Directory Trello Power-Ups can be installed (or “enabled” in Trello speak), by accessing the Trello Power-Up Directory. This is the Trello equivalent of the Apple App Store and where you can search for a suitable Power-Up to add it to your board(s).
There are two ways to access the Power-Up Directory:
  1. Via your browser using this link.
  2. Or from within Trello itself via the Board Menu.

How much do Power-Ups cost?

You can get some Trello Power-Ups free, including those created by Trello themselves, eg Card Snooze, Card Repeat, Card Aging, and more. However, other premium Power-Ups require an additional fee. These apps are created by third-party vendors but are 100% approved by Trello if they appear on the Power-Up Directory.
Kolekti is a good example of a third-party Power-Up creator. Check out our suite of Power-Ups here.

Don’t get caught out - The Trello Premium gotcha!

A common misconception is that when you upgrade your account to Trello Premium you get all Power-Ups for free. Unfortunately, this is not the case - premium, third-party Power-Ups still need to be purchased. However, you can have an unlimited number installed on each board.
As a reminder, here are the limits on each type of Trello account:
  • Free plan ($0) = 1 Power-Up per board
  • Trello Gold ($5 per month per user) = 3 Power-Ups per board
  • Premium ($10 per month per user) = Unlimited Power-Ups per board
  • Enterprise ($17.50* per month per user) = Unlimited Power-Ups per board
*Price decreases with more users. Source: Trello

Are there limits on how many Trello Power-Ups I can have?

Once upon a time, only premium users were able to access more than one Trello Power-Up per board at a time, but thankfully this is no longer the case!

Now, even users on the free tier can make the most of their Trello boards with unlimited Power-Ups.

Get a premium Power-Up for free!

One of the most useful Trello Power-Ups available is completely free. Get Card Delete for Trello and take the hassle out of deleting your cards. No need to archive cards anymore!
