What is a Business Model Canvas?

A Business Model Canvas is a strategic tool used to describe, design, and analyse business models. It provides a structured way to map out key components of your business, such as value propositions, customer segments, revenue streams, and more. This visual framework helps teams align on strategy and identify opportunities for growth.

What elements should a Business Model Canvas include?

Key components of your business

A Business Model Canvas is made up of nine sections - one for each key component of your business:
  • Key partners
  • Key activities
  • Value propositions
  • Customer relationships
  • Customer segments
  • Key resources
  • Channels
  • Cost structure
  • Revenue streams
By filling in each of these sections, you can develop a comprehensive overview of how your business operates.

Clear structure

Our template for Confluence uses a table to organise the sections into the classic Business Model Canvas structure, so all you need to do is fill in the information in the relevant boxes.
